| Nominated for the Palme d’Or at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, Im Sang-soo’s THE TASTE OF MONEY is a stylish portrait of lust, corruption, and violence at the highest levels of Korean society. One of the wealthiest families in the country faces scandal when the powerful Madame Baek catches her husband having an affair with their Filipino maid and exacts revenge by seducing her assistant Young-jak. Young-jak however has secrets of his own, as he finds himself drawn to the family’s beautiful young daughter and is torn between his morality and a shortcut to a successful life. Presented by the Smithsonian’s Freer and Sackler Galleries, with support from the Korean Cultural Center and the Embassy of the Republic of Korean, Washington, DC. |
