ANGELIKA HISTORY

The Angelika brand is synonymous with quality art, independent and specialty programming – a welcome alternative for filmgoers seeking something beyond the latest studio release. The highest grossing dedicated arthouse in North America, the original Angelika Film Center is a cultural institution in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. Since its opening in 1989, the Angelika New York has set worldwide box office records for such iconic films as Midnight in Paris and Slumdog Millionaire.  The Angelika is known for introducing audiences to cutting edge films like Kids, The Blair Witch Project and City of God, which have ultimately become cult sensations. The Angelika also has a history of premiering the work of up-and-coming filmmakers such as Memento, from director Christopher Nolan, who continues to produce cinematic brilliance with the Batman franchise and the Academy-Award nominated Inception. Following this tradition, the Angelikas in Dallas and Plano have served the arts community of North Texas since 2001 by bringing quality film and special programs to the area.
